100 YEARS OF TEXTILE AND FIBER RESEARCH

1971 - 2003
New themes, new tasks

1979 - The research center German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research (DITF) is established under the supervision of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics. It combines the ICF Institute for Man-Made Fibers, the ITC Institute for Textile Chemistry and the ITV Institute for Textile and Process Engineering (previously ITR Institute for Textile Technology Reutlingen) at the Denkendorf site.

1983 - With the completion of the new buildings in the Körschtal, the largest state textile research center in Europe is created by merging the institutes from Reutlingen and Stuttgart: The DITF work on research projects along the entire value chain from molecule to product. In order to support the textile industry in its structural change, the focus is increasingly on technical textiles.

2001 - Foundation of ITV Denkendorf Produktservice GmbH (ITVP) as a subsidiary of the DITF. Medical precursors are manufactured in clean rooms and, in cooperation with the the DITF and other project partners, the ITVP is involved in numerous publicly funded national and international research projects.

2002 - Foundation of the Center for Management Research (DITF MR). The center conducts cross-industry research on networked innovations and value creation as well as on necessary platforms and business models. The DITF thus positioning itself early as a forward thinker and pioneer of Industry 4.0 in the textile industry.

2003 - The chemical divisions are combined to form the Institute for Man-Made Fibers and Textile Chemistry. Together they set new impulses in the field of high-performance materials. The technically complex production of carbon fibers becomes a focus of research.
